May Gurney Site development

You may have spotted in the press or on the district council’s website that there is a new application from Surruys Property Company concerning the development of the May Gurney site. It will look familiar as it is the details of the Design Codes document that was presented to the village a few weeks ago. It is now out for public consultation and the PC encourage you to go and have a look at the documents and make your own comments via the South Norfolk District Council website which is linked below.

Design Codes Application document SNDC

Please do not be discouraged by the amount of documents there are on the application. Pick the ones that you are interested in and make comments on them. The PC will also be making comments. For info the May Gurney section of the development is referenced as Yare’s Edge.

Have your say on Norwich’s green spaces.

The Greater Norwich Growth Board is inviting you to take part in a consultation on green spaces in and around Norwich.

Well-designed green spaces are vital to our way of life. They include features that can be natural, like woodland and rivers, or man-made like parks, allotments, hedgerows, playing fields, cycleways, footpaths and even road-side verges.

As an interested party, we value your views on green spaces, their benefits, and how you would like to see them improved. Your views are essential to informing the Greater Norwich Growth Board’s new Green Infrastructure Strategy which will cover the areas of Norwich, Broadland and South Norfolk. The new Green Infrastructure Strategy aims to deliver:

  • A fresh approach to managing and improving existing green spaces to make sure they benefit as many people as possible, with a focus on inclusive access.
  • A strategy for creating new green spaces in the area that will benefit people and nature.

The consultation is open for six weeks from 10 May to 21 June.

Everyone who responds to the consultation will be entered into a prize draw to receive an annual family membership pass for the Norfolk Wildlife Trust.

SN VILLAGE CLUSTERS HOUSING ALLOCATIONS.

The South Norfolk Village Clusters Housing Allocations Plan (VCHAP) will be published between 9am on Monday 23 January and 5pm on Monday 6 March 2023, in accordance with Regulation 19 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012. Representations are invited on the legal compliance and soundness of the Plan. Any representations submitted must be received by South Norfolk Council within this timeframe.

The purpose of the VCHAP is to deliver growth that will support the vitality of the rural communities of South Norfolk. The proposed plan allocates housing sites in the South Norfolk village cluster settlements, in order to meet the minimum requirements set out in the Greater Norwich Local Plan (GNLP). It also defines the Settlement Limits for the village cluster settlements. A list of the village cluster settlements can be viewed at www.southnorfolkandbroadland.gov.uk/vchap.

VILLAGE BOOK SWAP

The Parish Council are looking to set up a village book swap. As the winter nights draw in and the cost of everything is going up, we were wondering if residents would be keen to have a place where books can be swapped. If you would be interested in this, please drop the clerk an email [email protected]

Thank you.

NEW ADULT GYM EQUIPMENT ON THE COMMON

You will see that the new Adult Gym equipment is now in position on the common. We hope you enjoy getting some exercise whilst your little ones are having fun on their equipment. Or, if you don’t have children, just enjoying exercising outside on our lovely common.

Please note that the gym equipment is only suitable for those over 1.4m tall, or the age specified on the individual piece of equipment.

The table tennis table is now in situ too, so bring your paddles down for a game.

TREES FOR THE JUBILEE

It was a wet Saturday morning on March 5th when a team of trusty volunteers set about planting some trees along the edge of the ditch on the common. This was all done in aid of reducing the risk of flooding on the common and to create more habitats for animals, insects, birds that are native to Trowse and maybe encourage some new ones. The trees were kindly supplied by South Norfolk District Council and with the advice of local tree officer Henry Gowman we set about creating this new environment.

Volunteers braved the damp conditions to help get these trees and shrubs into the ground and many a muddy wellie was seen!

Cllr Heather Bowers got stuck in (the mud) and joined in with the planting.

We even had some four legged help. Although I think she enjoyed the ball more than the trees!

It was great to see so many people involved with the planting and our thanks go to all of the volunteers who turned up that day. Special thanks go to Christine Ender and Chris Bowers whose stoic efforts early on Saturday made the planting that much easier.

It is going to take some time for the trees to establish themselves and we will have to be careful around them in the meantime. But, with any luck, in a few years we will have a wonderful hedgerow and lots of new animal inhabitants of Trowse.

Flooding

Sadly, this is the time of year when the village can be significantly affected by flooding, especially around the area of the Common, White Horse Lane and Newton Close. The Parish Council will do everything it can to assist residents who may be under threat from flood water. They have recently purchased nearly 500 ‘Floodsax’ that can be made available to residents to help protect their properties. These Floodsax are a product that can be carried and transported easily, and are a modern alternative to the standard sandbags. Should you require the use of these, please contact the Parish Council using the email address [email protected] or by calling 07899798853

Please see below for an instructional video about how to use the product safely and quickly ( further information can be found on the floodsax website www.floodsax.co.uk )

Please also have a look at the information below that will provide action points and contact information for the relevant authorities and organisations
